Fat Liberation Organizations
Whether you're interested in getting involved in fat activism, trying to find support, or looking to donate, here are some organizations to check out.
US Organizations
NAAFA - The National Association to Advance Fat Acceptance is an all-volunteer multigenerational organization looking to change the narrative around fatness, fight for fat-rights and increase respect for all people in all bodies. Fat people have rights and they need to be upheld!
NOLOSE: NOLOSE is a diverse, vibrant community of fat queer and trans folks and our allies, with a shared commitment to intersectional anti-oppression ideology and action, seeking to end the oppression of fat people.
Fat Rose- Fat Rose organizes fat radicals to embed fat politics on the left, contributing to building an intersectional fat liberation movement. We do this by developing and promoting radical and intersectional fat-centered political analysis, and offering incubation spaces for radical fat activists, thinkers, artists, and organizers to dream big about how to bring fat politics into social movements.
FLARE - Fat Legal Advocacy, Rights, and Education Project is dedicated to making the lives of higher-weight (aka fat) individuals better through advocacy, legal action, and education.
The Council on Weight and Size Discrimination: The Council on Weight and Size Discrimination works to change public policies and people's attitudes concerning body weight. We act as consumer advocates for larger people, especially in the areas of medical treatment, job discrimination, and media images.
ASDAH- The Association for Size Diversity and Health is a non-profit organization with an international membership committed to the practice of the Health At Every Size® (HAES®) Principles, ASDAH envisions a world that celebrates bodies of all shapes and sizes, in which body weight is no longer a source of discrimination and where oppressed communities have equal access to the resources and practices that support health and well being.
FFL- Feedists for Fat Liberation is a collective of like-minded feedists who feel that feedism has historically ignored the call to fat liberation, and that the negative perceptions of feedism in fat liberation spaces contributes to the lack of involvement of feedists in movement work.
International Groups
🇬🇧 Scottee [& Friends] is a collective of artists, producers, makers and participants creating theatre, social activism, and long-form community projects across the UK. Essentially they are a bunch of fat, queer, common femmes and fags who make stuff that makes you think and feel.
🇫🇷 Gras Politique - is a French feminist and queer collective fighting against fatphobia, founded in June 2016, (translation)
🇩🇪 Deutschlands Forum für Dicke (Germany) The goal of this forum is to support fat people in gaining self-confidence independent of their body weight. We, the operators of this DDS, don’t think you should feel guilty because you're fat, The fact that you are fat is no reason not to accept yourself or to be discriminated against. (translation)
